A few weeks ago I discovered Nema’s Abudu actually spoke quite good English when he hosted one of the lodge’s guests. When challenged to speak more and improve he said he had no dictionary and nowhere to practice. He should know better than challenge me like that! So, he now has a dictionary (thanks Gig) and today started his first practice by teaching English to the rest of the Nema team. Today, greetings and days of the week. The team were an enthusiastic audience and were confused by how different written English is to spoken English; in fairness “night” is a stupid way to write a word. But they’ll be fluent before we know it!
