philosophy

The Mucojo region is one of the poorest areas in Mozambique and relies almost entirely on subsistence livelihoods. Improving existing livelihoods and creating alternative livelihoods is the key to empowering communities to become economically independent and self-sufficient. The development of SMEs and increasing employment is therefore one of Nema’s long term goals of sustainable development.

PROJECT: Support & Development of Craft Groups
Over the last year we have helped to establish palm-weaving, ceramic and art groups. Together with the Aga Khan Foundation we are currently building a craft centre, kiln and workshops in Guludo village. Guests at Guludo Beach Lodge are able to buy some of these products directly from the artisans when visiting the groups in Guludo village.
