Marine Biologists (working in Guludo Beach Lodge) dedicate part of their time working on conservation projects for Nema.
PROJECT: Seafood Buyer’s Guide
This year we are working on publishing a seafood buyers’ guide to promote responsible purchasing of seafood within the hospitality industry in this region.
PROJECT: Oyster Farms
Preliminary work has started local fishermen to establish oyster farms.
PROJECT: Humpback Whale Research
Since 2006 we have been collecting humpback data to help the international conservation of the specie. This has been made possible through guests staying at Guludo Beach Lodge paying to go on whale trips enabling marine biologists to continue our research at the same time.
PROJECT: Reef Surveys
This year reef surveys will start to monitor the productivity of the Quirimbas National Park’s marine sanctuaries.
PROJECT: Forestry & Agriculture
In addition to these marine projects we are planning to start work with local farmers to improve agricultural techniques and protect the coastal forest. In 2009 we plan to start a re-plantation project.
