Ownership of projects
We believe the success of community projects relies on the beneficiaries having a sense of ownership and pride in projects. Our projects strive to be community driven and managed wherever possible by working through new and strengthened traditional committees.

Women focused
Wherever possible, projects are focused primarily on women. Women are the core of the family unit, putting the best interests of the entire family first as well as the primary caretakers of young children which so many bof our projects strive to benefit.

Prioritisation Strategy
  • Short Term Through constant community consultations we strive to address the most urgent, humanitarian needs first, including the most serious wildlife/human conflicts.
  • Medium Term Following this the less urgent social and ecnomomic issues are addressed with constant data collection to enable extensive monitoring to be used to adapt, improve and re-prioritise projects.
  • Long Term Finally, to ensure sustainability, the longer term goals lie in education and relentless monitoring, adjustment and improvements.

Sustainability
Nema was created together with a fair trade tourism business (Bespoke Experience Ltd) that gives a growing percentage of revenues to Nema, giving the charity security for the future. Bespoke's activities also gives Nema a logistical base and numerous commercial opportunities for the communities.

Research & Monitoring
An integral part of each project run by Nema is the collection of data. This is to be used to closely monitor the progress of each idividual project and the impact on the community as a whole.
