“On 17th May 2019, around 6pm, we managed to load 2 boats in Ibo, one with 350 family food kits which had been flown into Ibo Island and stored at Ibo Island Lodge. We spent the night on one of the small boats, and started the following day, 18th May 2019, around 2am, reaching the mainland at 7am, around the same time the boat from Pemba arrived with a further 800 family food kits.
“The Nema/Guludo team, villages leaders and members of the communities were already there, waiting for us. After offloading the 2 small boats, we waited for the high tide, and used the small boats to offload the cargo from the big boat.
“Each kit contained 7kg of rice, 7 kg of beans, 7kg of cornflour, 1kg of salt, 1kg of sugar, 1l of cooking oil and 1 bar of soap. We divided the 1150 family food kits amongst 5 villages and the Nema team, along with the village leaders and Guludo staff, distributed the food to each village.
